Queen of Coins
from Time and Remembering
Hobbs
describes her work and work process…
My work explores feminine identity. My style is
characterized by photographing miniature scenes composed of dolls, plaster
figures, sculpted forms and painted backdrops. The black and white
photographs are toned and sometimes hand-colored. The effect is surreal
and mysterious.
Time and Remembering
is a series of sepia-toned and hand-colored photographs housed in rustic pine
enclosures. Antique wooden chambers and curio cases house dried flowers,
broken eggs and forgotten dolls. Patterned papers, lacy textures and
children’s playing cards quilt the shadowbox interiors. These trunk-like
boxes suggest memory, loss and time slipping away.
Dearly Departed is
a series of sepia-toned photographs which consider the issues of death and
mortality. Women are pictured in twilight landscapes disappearing into
uncertain futures. Other images picture statuesque forms of women
obscured in cocoon-like enclosures with dried flowers and discarded nests.
