Watch Your Step!

Martha MacLeish’s latest installation is a welcome imposition. Her work, “Things Seen are Things as Seen,” is sprawled across the floor and jutting out from the walls. “Things seen...” is a study of graphical signs. MacLeish took her formal scheme and repeatedly recontextualized it in various media. In doing, she teases out new meanings locked within these shapes. Psychedelic paintings communicate with curled, wooden forms rolling at your feet. And they both try to ignore the thrusting planes of the steely multi-media piece - with its utter disregard for proper pictorial boundaries. MacLeish creates her own microcosm with her vaguely biomorphic forms. The result is a boisterous conversation in a beautiful foreign language.

Stumble upon it at ARC until November 26th
