Herbert Murrie, a mixed media artist and self proclaimed "Abstract Expressionist," is being featured with twelve of his large scale mixed media collages at the ARC Gallery in Chicago, IL. These high-gloss polymer resin coated collages are filled with immense personality, each one projecting distinguished stories and emotions.
As the titles of Murrie's featured art works suggest ('A White Dwarf Star' pictured on the right), bold color combinations and nature themes are heavily emphasized throughout the exhibit. The pieces are all similarly tied together by fabric scrap-like shapes with colors evocative of psychedelic lava lamps, galactic milky ways, and the "Morning Glory" pool of Yellowstone National Park. Each work achieves to provoke a sense of motion and living vibrancy; a fantastical sense of synesthesia, where the colors dance in front of the viewer like visible sound waves. Optimism and pessimism fluctuate throughout the works, from gentle floating scenes to rapid and busy gridlocks of colors and patterns reminiscent of Pollack.
See Herbert Murrie's exhibition for yourself at the ARC Gallery until September 25th.
