Kina Bagovska’s All That Chicago is a series of individual canvas panels married by a sketchy style and spare, but electric palette. At first glance, the piece looks like a page from a giant comic book nailed to the wall. The panels, however, lack the sequentiality of a graphic novel. The overall piece is somewhat disjointed, like a sliding tile puzzle, with each box its own self-contained vignette. Looking closely, we can see fragments of these scenes leak into other panels, creating subtle intersections of time and place. This allows the piece to be read top to bottom, as well as left to right - or as a single composition. The result is a conflation of people, experiences and moments that captures the chaotic, sometimes melodic, rhythms of a city life.
